South Carolina Hotels - Discount Family Vacations
One of the 13 original colonies, South Carolina is full of American history. It is also one of the most beautiful states with its mild climate and varied topography within its borders.
In the Coastal Plain area, known as the Lowcountry lies the coastal plains and the shoreline with natural harbors in places like Charleston and Georgetown. Located in the Lowcountry are Hilton Head Island and Myrtle Beach, both popular coastal cities that feature some of the most renowned golf courses in the country. These coastal cities are also known for their beaches and subsequent water sports. Surfing, parasailing, swimming, boating (including yachting) are all popular pastimes in the coastal cities.
More toward the internal parts of the state, near Columbia, the Spartanburg-Greenville area, and Rock Hill, sports like hiking, rafting, fishing and other great outdoor activities are popular with natives and tourists alike.
While nature is one of the principal reasons to see South Carolina, its place in American history always draws tourists from all over the country. Forts Sumter and Moultrie are all located in South Carolina, and are famous both in regard to the American Revolution and the American Civil War. They both stand as National Monuments today, and tours are available on both sites. Charleston, originally called Charlestown when it was founded, is also a city of historical significance in American history. It is one of the oldest cities in the United States, originally the capital of the southernmost English colony in the 1600's. It is also one of the most influential cities in American History, and a must-visit in South Carolina.
Another unknown aspect of South Carolina is its local amusement parks, one of which is named Carowinds. Carowinds is a joint venture between the states of North and South Carolina, each state having a portion of the park within it. Charlotte, North Carolina, and Fort Mill, South Carolina, which are located adjacent to each other, are the cities that administer to this park. From 1993 to 2006 it was owned by Paramount Parks company in conjunction with Paramount Pictures, so the rides have movie and television themes. It now belongs to Cedar Fair L.P., but the themes haven't changed, so for a ride through the best of Hollywood, visit Carowinds.
With its natural beauty, mild climate, Southern charm, and historical significance, South Carolina is an ideal vacation destination. Experience its wonders!
